I have recently been looking into possible funding support from the PRS Foundation for my original music and song-writing. This could finance a tour and help me recreate my recordings and arrangements with a live band.
When I was a student at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) I was lucky enough to have a constant supply of willing musicians to back me up at live performances and gigs. Now, however, I’m alone, a solitary acoustic performer with just my guitar for company… My piano player, who featured on my debut six track EP ‘Velvet Eyes’, has moved to Australia, bass player Phil Brickell is living somewhere near Bournemouth and drummer Fern Ford has been touring the world with Kate Nash! I have been gigging regularly in London, Guildford and Kent as a solo performer since late 2011 and I do love the freedom of playing solo (being able to book a gig at the last minute and just turn up, no organising or preparation needed) but there’s nothing like playing with a band and collaborating with other musicians.
So I have decided to apply for funding to help me put together a live band and organise a tour around the UK.
My music has been likened to a variety of different artists such as: Nick Drake, John Martyn, Joni Mitchell, Jacques Brel, Black and Damien Rice. I am thinking of putting together an unusual ensemble to reflect these influences and to fuse together English Folk with French Romance. This would include instruments such as: the accordion, violin, clarinet, piano/ keyboards, double bass, drum kit and backing vocals. This would be a 6 or 7 piece band including myself. How exciting!! I just need to find the musicians and put together a great application.
Wish me luck. 🙂
